Background
Island County is developing a sub area plan for the Clinton community. Sub area plans are a method for cities and counties to analyze and plan for the needs of a more focused area.
Clinton is the southern gateway to Whidbey Island and is unique in that thousands of travelers and commuters pass through the ferry terminal there to Mukilteo every day. Clinton is designated as a Local Area of More Intensive Rural Development (LAMIRD), sometimes also called a RAID, under the Growth Management Act (GMA).
Through the sub area planning process, residents, stakeholders, and County staff will work together to determine potential future residential and commercial growth options and establish a vision for the community.
Opportunities to Participate and Help Inform this Process
Participation and input from residents and stakeholders will drive the success of this project. The Clinton Sub Area Plan includes two major periods to provide input:
- Late Summer/early Fall 2024: Development of a guiding vision for the plan areas over the next 20 years.
- Winter 2024: Presentation of draft findings and draft goals and policies for the sub area plan.
